2014
An unstoppable rise

TASTING

The 2014 vintage is the perfect representation of Ferrand’s power.
Its appearance heralds its very deep, dense character.
It is powerful on the nose, boasting controlled ageing aromas and intense black fruit. On the palate it is utterly powerful right from the attack, and develops in very straight-lined, even explosive fashion! The tannins keep it in balance and suggest great ageing potential.
A powerful vintage that will go perfectly with dishes such as game or lamb.

climatOLOGY

Spring set in with high daytime and cool night-time temperatures.
The vines took advantage of these excellent temperatures to develop without excessive growth. Foliage was healthy and plant growth was uniform. Mid-flowering saw open bunches in a good state of health.
The end of June was less auspicious, with rainy periods and some violent storms. A period of poor, sometimes cold weather with relatively little sunshine and heavy rainfall followed, but would be forgotten following an altogether mild autumn.

QualitY OF VINTAGE

The last weeks of September and October were dry and sunny. The grapes ripened at their own pace. The vine’s resistance to bad weather and the grapes’ ripeness at the end of the season produced an atypical vintage. Late harvests took advantage of these perfect ripening conditions. The merlot was harvested between 6 and 15 October, and the cabernet was collected on 20 October in a perfect state of health. The balance between sweetness and acidity revealed real quality potential. The vintage is characterised by high levels of ripeness, satisfactory polyphenolic concentration, and a good state of health. Harvesting by hand and optical sorting enabled hugely precise selection.
