The wine has a deep crimson appearance. It is powerful on the nose with black fruit and spice aromas. Warming on the palate with dense, very well-integrated tannins. The finish is endlessly lingering and beautifully fresh. A beautiful wine with huge ageing potential.
This was a great vintage that would produce an exceptional wine.
However, it was a particularly dry year throughout the growth cycle. The other feature of this vintage and its corollary was a significant water deficit from winter onwards that did not let up at any point of the growth cycle, remaining exceptionally hot right through to harvest time.
Night-time temperatures in August remained cool, and a wonderfully dry period continued until September and October.
Quality of vintage
Cool nights preserved good acidity levels, and the aromas were enhanced by concentration.
The stage was set for a perfect harvest in terms of ripeness, boosted by a magnificent end to the season that enabled plots to be harvested in succession and bunches of grapes to be selected at perfect health.
The cabernet franc was of remarkable quality, with gentle vatting that respected its tannic potential and acidity.
